Day trip to Bundaberg 6 July

Published by under News Update

From: Susan Doel
To: QDBF Members

Hi everyone

This may be another call asking for paddlers to do something, but it is aimed at individuals not at clubs so I am sincerely hoping that you will pass this message on to your members.

Bundy Dragons is a very new club that is in the process of getting set up and running.

They are holdling a Come Try on 6 July, and QDBF are supporting this by taking up some paddlers to work with their very new team and giving members of the public a dragon boat experience.

Programme for the day is 11 am – 12 pm Training with Bundy Dragons, 12 pm – 2 pm Come Try and Sausage Sizzle.

The venue is the Bundaberg Sailing Club ie good facilites and lovely setting.

So we are looking for paddlers happy to have a day out at Bundaberg, all costs funded by the Development Grant. Going up on Saturday could be an option if people are interested. They tell me it is still summer in Bundaberg.

Please let me know if you are interested as soon as possible, so that we can get transport arranged.

Regards

Invitation to Opening Ceremony

Published by under News Update

To all teams attending the 2011 Australian Dragon Boat Championships,

AusDBF are pleased to invite all dragon boaters from across Australia to attend the 2011 Australian Dragon Boat Championships Opening Ceremony and witness the traditional eye dotting ceremony! It starts at 5pm on Wednesday 30 March at Commonwealth Place.

The eye dotting is the awakening of the dragon and is a Chinese tradition stretching back thousands of years.

The ceremony is about waking and giving life to the dragon. It represents respect for the dragon and it gets him into a good and friendly mood towards each individual paddler, the team, and the community. In turn, the dragon will protect paddlers, teams and the community during the race.

It is considered bad luck to race in a dragon boat that has not been properly awakened.

All 20 Champion Dragon Boats and paddlers will be blessed by the monks and the boats will have their eyes dotted by the VIP’s attending the event.

Come experience the first ever Opening Ceremony in Australian Championships history!

With the competition expecting to heat up over the four days, a bit of good luck could go a long way!

Broadwater Dragons-Training at Paradise Point to START SATURDAY 1ST NOVEMBER, 2008

Published by under Uncategorized

A huge thank you to those of you who turned out for an info session at Paradise Point yesterday.

It was decided to train on Saturdays on a weekly basis at Paradise Point and see how this goes.  This may change, with more training sessions during the week added, if most are in agreeance.

Establishing a training arm of Broadwater Dragons is very exciting for our Club, and we will accommodate everyone as much as we are able to.  Everyone is welcome to come along- from 12 years to 60 plus years, male and female, the young, and the young at heart, and family groups.

START DATE- SATURDAY 1ST NOVEMBER

TIME- BE THERE BY 3-45 p.m. for a  4 p.m. START ( Training session for approx 1 hour)

PLACE- PARADISE POINT FORESHORE PARK (OPPOSITE ABALONE STREET)

COST- $5 PER PERSON.  THIS FEE ENABLES YOU TO TRAIN FOR 3 SESSIONS UNDER OUR INSURANCE COVER, BEFORE YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PAY THE FULL CLUB AND INSURANCE FEES OF $115 FOR THE 08-09 FINANCIAL YEAR.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING- Wear shorts, singlet or tight fitting t-shirt, and either joggers or bare feet.  Bring a water bottle, towel, change of clothes (as you may get a bit wet), and hat.  And VERY CHEAP SUNGLASSES.

Dragon boating is a water sport, you get wet, and may even on the very rare occassions, tip over.  Life jackets are provided for the non confident swimmers.

Please spread the word around your friends, workmates, gym buddies, who may be looking to try something different, and exciting, and FUN!!!!!!!!!

Please let me know if this DAY and TIME suits you.  And also advise by email or SMS if you will be coming on the 1st November.

A dragon boat seats 20, and we need at least 10 to get the boat into the water, and to get it moving.  Everyone is super keen to get this up and running, and numbers will build as word gets out, and the weather gets warmer.

Everyone who trains at Paradise Point and becomes a member of Broadwater Dragons will be included in all Broadwater Dragons’ social and competitive activities. We will be one club, one heart, one goal.

Please email or phone if you have any more questions.

Thank you.

Success at Paradise Point

Published by under News Update

To All Broadwater Dragon Paddlers,

Another very successful regatta at Paradise Point. Fantastic people with fantastic weather, with awesome attitude- thank you to everyone who helped out in any way.
Broadwater Dragons are holding 2 corporate/social dragon boat regattas this year, and next, as they are very successful fundraisers for our club, as well as actively promoting the sport of dragon boating with the chance of recruiting as well from each event.

Thank you to our Club members who organized teams for the regatta- Georgie, Jayne and Anna, Georgina, James, PT and Beau, Julie- well done, and hopefully you will all be back for the 22nd February, 2009.

This is always a huge day- before, during and after- and it is only with the full support and attendance of all Club members which makes it all so much fun, and totally enjoyable.

Thank you to one and all.

Paul & Karen
