Dear All:

Burleigh Fire Dragons would like to invite all QDBF Clubs to participate in their Annual Sports Regatta on Sunday 4^th December held on Lake Orr at Varsity Lakes.

We will be hosting 200m,  500m, and one 2000 m races in 10’s and 20m

Also Burleigh’s very popular League of Nations Event (500m)

Please note that Burleigh Fire Dragons is required to satisfy Gold Coast City Council regulations and meet strict Health and Safety requirements.

BFD is requesting that you refrain from bringing your own BBQs to the event.

Multiple BBQs on site is contrary to Delfin’s building regulations, poses a fire risk, increases BFDs risk management guidelines and contravenes Council health and safety regulations.

All participants and visitors to be aware that there is no parking allowed on Christine Ave. Traffic Marshalls will be on duty to assist in directing traffic to the western side of the Community House
The closing date for entries is Wednesday 30^th November

The AGM will be directly after training on Sunday 14^th August 2011. This will give you time to change into dry clothes & head to the meeting.

To All Club Members, and the DAGC paddlers,

Thank you all for making last Sunday such an awesome day with the CanTeen crew.
Perfect weather, a relaxing and beautiful parkland, calm waters, combined with the energy and enthusiasm of 44 young Canteen members, made for a very rewarding and fun filled morning of paddling.

Broadwater Dragons had three boats full of CanTeen members, Club members, and the Dragons Abreast Gold Coast members- first in practise and training mode, then with mini races between all three.

Brunch and yummy cake was provided by the Ashmore Lions Club, and Coates Hire donated the portable toilet. Thank you to these companies who always give generously for such a worthwhile cause.

To see so many young people who have had to endure such challenging challenges in their lives- laugh, have fun, relax on the lawn, and just "chill out" with their friends, was the most rewarding part of the day.

To see our Broadwater Club members all want to stay, to help out, and just "hang out" with each other, was just as rewarding. Real team bonding, and deeper friendships were developed throughout the day.

To be able to chat and mix with the DAGC members and supporters, and to learn a bit more about their club, was an added bonus. A special thank you to the DAGC for asking Broadwater to assist with this event- we as a club have gained enormously from it, and will be available whenever there is a next time.

ABOUT CANTEEN

CanTeen – The Australian Organisation for Young People Living with Cancer – is a national support organisation for 12 – 24 year olds who are living with cancer, and is the only organisation of its kind in Australia.

The inspiration behind CanTeen is the belief that young people are better able to cope with the uncertainties of a cancer diagnosis through meeting and talking with other young people who have had a similar experience and understand exactly what they are going through.

What we do

CanTeen’s mission is to support, develop and empower young people living with cancer. We do this by providing an Australia-wide peer support network for 12 to 24 year-olds, who include*:

Patients – young people who have been diagnosed with cancer
Siblings & Offspring – young people who have an immediate family member (brother, sister, parent or primary carer) who has been diagnosed with cancer; and
Bereaved Siblings & Offspring – young people who have had an immediate family member die from cancer.
We provide Members with a place where they can simply be young people, away from the day-to-day pressures that come from living with cancer in the hospital or at hom
