Published by Koren under News Update

Hi everyone!!!!

Some of us Paddlers are doing Boxercise Class on Wednesday nights at Nerang PCYC at 6.15pm-7.30pm, its $14 to become a memeber then $7 for each class.

Its a fun but hard workout, I highly reccomend it if you dont go to the gym this is a good way to get your fitness going outside our paddling training.

If its not close by you there could be another PCYC in your area.

Its time to work up some sweat and get ready for the NATIONALS!!!!!

Broadwater Dragons-Training at Paradise Point to START SATURDAY 1ST NOVEMBER, 2008

Published by admin under Uncategorized

A huge thank you to those of you who turned out for an info session at Paradise Point yesterday.

It was decided to train on Saturdays on a weekly basis at Paradise Point and see how this goes.  This may change, with more training sessions during the week added, if most are in agreeance.

Establishing a training arm of Broadwater Dragons is very exciting for our Club, and we will accommodate everyone as much as we are able to.  Everyone is welcome to come along- from 12 years to 60 plus years, male and female, the young, and the young at heart, and family groups.

START DATE- SATURDAY 1ST NOVEMBER

TIME- BE THERE BY 3-45 p.m. for a  4 p.m. START ( Training session for approx 1 hour)

PLACE- PARADISE POINT FORESHORE PARK (OPPOSITE ABALONE STREET)

COST- $5 PER PERSON.  THIS FEE ENABLES YOU TO TRAIN FOR 3 SESSIONS UNDER OUR INSURANCE COVER, BEFORE YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PAY THE FULL CLUB AND INSURANCE FEES OF $115 FOR THE 08-09 FINANCIAL YEAR.

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING- Wear shorts, singlet or tight fitting t-shirt, and either joggers or bare feet.  Bring a water bottle, towel, change of clothes (as you may get a bit wet), and hat.  And VERY CHEAP SUNGLASSES.

Dragon boating is a water sport, you get wet, and may even on the very rare occassions, tip over.  Life jackets are provided for the non confident swimmers.

Please spread the word around your friends, workmates, gym buddies, who may be looking to try something different, and exciting, and FUN!!!!!!!!!

Please let me know if this DAY and TIME suits you.  And also advise by email or SMS if you will be coming on the 1st November.

A dragon boat seats 20, and we need at least 10 to get the boat into the water, and to get it moving.  Everyone is super keen to get this up and running, and numbers will build as word gets out, and the weather gets warmer.

Everyone who trains at Paradise Point and becomes a member of Broadwater Dragons will be included in all Broadwater Dragons’ social and competitive activities. We will be one club, one heart, one goal.

Please email or phone if you have any more questions.

Thank you.

Broadwater Dragons Paddling Club Inc at Paradise Point.

Published by admin under Events, News Update

To All,

Thank you to all of you for showing interest in starting up a dragon boat  training arm of the Broadwater Dragons Paddling Club Inc at Paradise  Point.

Now that the dust has settled, and we have all recovered from the awesome  Peta-Kaye Croft Dragon Boat Challenge last weekend, we need to get together,  discuss training session times and days, your expectations and that of the  Clubs, fee structure, etc.

The group which trains at Paradise Point will be fully covered by  Broadwater Dragon’s insurance cover (once fees are paid by individuals), and  be totally a part of Broadwater Dragons and be included in all that the Club  does- both socially and competitively.

Our goals are to promote the sport of dragon boating, recruit new  Club members, increase our membership base in all age categories- from Juniors  (12 years of age) to Grand Masters (Over 50’s), and to have fun with  friendship.  We cater for both social and competitive paddlers, with over  12 regattas a year to compete in.

Please have a look at www.broadwaterdragons.com <http://www.broadwaterdragons.com>

About  The Club

Broadwater Dragons Paddling Club Inc was established in September  2001 and trains from the Royal Pines Marina on the Nerang River at  Benowa. Through hard work, dedication and commitment by the members, the Club  caters for Social, Competitive and Junior members. We are always ready to  welcome new members.

As a Club,  we are part of the Queensland Dragon Boat Federation (www.qdbf.com.au <http://www.qdbf.com.au> ). We race in many regional  events and compete at State, National and International levels. In April 2008,  we travelled to Perth for the National Championships, and qualified for the  World Club Crew Championships in Penang in August, where we performed  extremely well.

We train  hard, with fun and enthusiasm, plus the Club has many social functions through  the year.
Fee  Structure

BDPC  Membership-   From July to June- $80.00 per adult  (over the age of 17 years).   Juniors-free Club  membership

Queensland  Dragon Boat Federation Insurance-  $40 Seniors, $30 for Juniors.

TOTAL MEMBERSHIP FOR THE YEAR- $120-00 Adult, $30  for Juniors (12yrs to 17yrs)

Equipment
The Club  provides the boat, paddles and  coach.  You just need to bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen and a cheap  pair of sunglasses.  In time, each paddler is encouraged to purchase  their own paddle to their specific height requirements, costing from $70 for a  wooden paddle to $199 for a carbon fibre paddle.

MEETING- On the Foreshore Park, The  Esplanade- OPPOSITE ABALONE STREET.  BYO  chairs.

DATE- SATURDAY 18TH  OCTOBER, 2008

TIME-  2  P.M.

Everyone who is interested in being a  part of this fantastic sport is invited to attend.

Success at Paradise Point

Published by admin under News Update

To All Broadwater Dragon Paddlers,

Another very successful regatta at Paradise Point. Fantastic people with fantastic weather, with awesome attitude- thank you to everyone who helped out in any way.
Broadwater Dragons are holding 2 corporate/social dragon boat regattas this year, and next, as they are very successful fundraisers for our club, as well as actively promoting the sport of dragon boating with the chance of recruiting as well from each event.

Thank you to our Club members who organized teams for the regatta- Georgie, Jayne and Anna, Georgina, James, PT and Beau, Julie- well done, and hopefully you will all be back for the 22nd February, 2009.

This is always a huge day- before, during and after- and it is only with the full support and attendance of all Club members which makes it all so much fun, and totally enjoyable.

Thank you to one and all.

Paul & Karen
